Community Outreach Director

Debra Gierling Poole

Debra Gierling Poole is honored to be a part of Space Coast Ballet Company, bringing together the community of dance in Brevard County. Having begun her dance training on the Space Coast, she has long been established in the local dance community.

At the age of 12, Debra was offered full scholarships to train with the Bolshoi in Moscow, Russia and the Kirov in Washington, DC. Although she did not accept either of those engagements, she went on to pursue a professional career in dance as a performer, choreographer, teacher and coach.

Debra has been dancing for three decades, teaching for a quarter of a century and has been coaching pre-professionals for the last 15 years. She is a graduate of Belhaven University, having obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet, Magna Cum Laude. She is the Founding Director of Cornerstone Dance (cornerstonedance.org), a non-profit organization, which utilizes dance as a medium to serve, love and share the message of hope. She is the Director of Gateway Dance Academy. She was the founding Event Producer for Project Dance Orlando and has been a part of Project Dance in New York, London, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico.  Debra has been blessed to teach and perform all across the United States and globally in China, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Romania and the United Kingdom.

As a performer, she has danced with East Coast Dance Theatre, Jacobs Pillow, Ballet Magnificat!, Belhaven Dance Ensemble, Phoenix Dance Theater, Polarity Dance Theatre, Doxa, Space Coast Ballet, Japan Mission, Glory Dance, Living Stones, Illume, International Christian Embassy of Jerusalem, Arrows International, Beijing International Christian Fellowship, D├ínzale, Dawn Branch Works and many others.

She looks forward to using the knowledge and experience she has gained to help bring together dancers on the Space Coast! We are thrilled to have her on board to share our vision of bringing quality dance to the entire community of the Space Coast!

Space Coast Ballet Company has collaborated with the Girl Scouts of Citrus!

It's official! The collaboration has been sealed with a handshake. SCBC Board member Loretta Grella and Girl Scouts Program Manager Antonio, shake hands making the collaboration between the two groups official. Karen Wilson, Director of Theatre for Youth Program, was there to witness the event. Welcome to the Space Coast Ballet Company family Girl Scouts of Citrus!

SCBC performer and Girl Scout of Citrus member, Kelsey, was super excited when she heard about the collaboration between the two groups!

Through this partnership, the Girl Scouts of Citrus will receive backstage tours, led by one of our esteem Board members, of all of our productions! They will have sneak peaks of behind the scenes and the opportunity to get up close to the amazing props and scenery! Check out the pictures of the Girl Scouts backstage of our last production, the Nutcracker!

Complimentary Performance Tickets for Students and Families of
Local Title One Schools

As part of SCBC's dedication to the community through the Complimentary Ticket Program for Title 1 Schools, over 400 tickets were offered to students and families in 2018, bringing live theatre to underserved children throughout the Space Coast area. Our performances reach across barriers to build the next generation of audiences for dance and theatre. We are able to provide this gift to Title 1 Schools in Brevard County thanks to private charitable donations from generous corporations, foundations and individuals.

This amazing program uses performing arts to teach diverse young children how to think creatively through imagination, dance and live theatre.

Senior Living Outreach Program

The Space Coast Ballet Company is proud to give back to the senior living community. On a monthly basis, current SCBC performers travel to different facilities in the Space Coast area to bring joy and entertainment to the residents.

Inspiring the Community

Since 2003, SCBC has been building strong community relationships and inspiring young children by promoting personal connections with dance through performances at a variety of events. Dancers of the SCBC have performed at the Brevard Symphony Orchestra's Cultural events, Junior League's Festival of Trees, Barnes and Noble Story Time, Eau Gallie Art Festival, Light Up Viera Annual Christmas Parade, Back to School Mall events, Movie Premiers and school events. Dancers have also supported local charities such as the Women's Center and Nana's House, by performing at their fundraiser events.
